Additional Changes to Off-Campus Study Plus Screening Criteria

We would like to inform you of an important update regarding Off-Campus Study Plus, the travel support program offered by Science Tokyo Support Program for Doctoral Students.

Previously, we announced a revision to the screening criteria for this fiscal year’s “Off-Campus Study Plus” program, making applications primarily for participation in international conferences ineligible for support. Despite this measure, the number of applications continues to remain exceptionally high compared to previous years. As a result, it has become financially difficult to sustain the current level of support within our remaining budget.

Consequently, we sincerely regret to inform you that we are implementing additional changes to our screening policies and support limits as follows:

1. Introduction of a Maximum Support Limit
・The maximum duration for full support will be limited to a cumulative total of 90 days, including any support received in previous fiscal years.
・For any days exceeding this 90-day limit, the support amount will be reduced by 50%.
・[Effective Date] This policy applies to all applications submitted on or after July 1. Please note that this will also retroactively apply to applications that have already been submitted.

2. Restriction on Application Eligibility
・Individuals who have already received support from Off-Campus Study Plus for a cumulative total of 90 days or more (including support from previous fiscal years) will no longer be eligible to apply.
[Effective Date] This policy applies to all applications submitted on or after August 1. Any applications submitted by ineligible individuals will be treated as invalid.

As clearly stated in the program guidelines, once the annual budget has been fully allocated, we will close all application submissions regardless of their content. Please note that conference participation may still be supported by your research funds.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
