The Institute has been designated as a University for International Research Excellence. Following official authorization, the current Science Tokyo SPRING (JST doctoral support program) will end at the end of FY 2025.
■ Doctoral support program from FY 2026
Starting from FY 2026, the Science Tokyo Support Program for Doctoral Students – Program for Development of Next-Generation Front-Runners with Comprehensive Knowledge and Humanity will be continued under the Universities for International Research Excellence framework. This program will continue to provide support equivalent to the current level until the implementation of a new program in FY 2028.
■ For current SPRING students and those with an advance offer for April 2026
- Students currently receiving support under the SPRING program
- Students with an advance offer for SPRING support starting in April 2026 (for Science and Engineering fields)
→These students will automatically transfer to the Science Tokyo Support Program for Doctoral Students from FY 2026 onwards.
■ For doctoral students enrolling in April 2026
Support will be provided for those enrolling in April 2026. Please refer to the Application Information scheduled for release in March for details.
■ Support details (Science and Engineering)
Specific support details are as follows:

■ Future schedule (summary)
- FY 2027: Doctoral support on the same scale as the current fiscal year is planned (details under consideration).
- FY 2028 onwards: Doctoral support is planned, based on the Visionary Initiatives, a new vision-driven framework for cross-disciplinary research and education (details to be determined).
