What is the Cross-border Exchange Workshop?
The Science Tokyo SPRING Cross-border Exchange Workshop is an annual event where SPRING-supported students from science and engineering fields gather to present their research and activities, exchange ideas, and gain new insights.
The workshop provides opportunities to, for example:
- Meet other supported students from research fields they do not usually interact with
- Receive questions and comments from different perspectives
- Practice explaining their research and learning in an accessible way to audiences outside their field
- Enjoy dialogue and discussion that goes beyond disciplinary boundaries
We encourage all participants to actively engage in these exchanges and use the workshop as an opportunity to broaden their learning and discover new perspectives beyond the boundaries of their own research.
Participants:
All SPRING (SE) supported students, including:
- Continuing supported students in the “Tokyo Tech Advanced Human Resource Development Fellowship for Doctoral Students” and “Cross the border! Pioneering doctoral research project.”
- Newly supported students who were selected in Fall FY 2025.

[Part 1: Oral Presentations]
Two SPRING-supported students will give presentations focusing on initiatives that extend beyond their own research fields or research environments, sharing their experiences and activities.
Theme 1) Participation in the SPRING Retreat 2025 for the medical and dental fields (research outcome presentations)
Theme 2) Overseas off-campus activities through the Off-campus Plus Program
[Part 2: Poster Presentations]
The poster session will be held in two parts: the first half for posters with odd numbers, and the second half for posters with even numbers.
- The poster presentations at this workshop are not intended for specialized research discussions as in academic conferences. Instead, they aim to showcase the outcomes of the SPRING program’s general skills development and to deepen learning through dialogue with students from different fields.
- Presenters are requested to organize and explain their research in a way that is easy to understand for students outside their field of expertise. (Detailed guidelines for poster preparation will be provided separately.)
- Audience members are encouraged to take an active interest in presentations outside their own research field, and to deepen their learning through dialogue by asking questions and providing comments proactively.
[Interactive Activity]
Alongside the poster presentations, an interactive activity will be held during the workshop.
This activity aims to encourage participants from different fields to casually exchange ideas about research and learning.
Theme:
“What did you keep in mind or find helpful when your research reached a standstill?”
Based on the one-line messages submitted in advance by poster presenters, participants are invited to vote for the message they relate to the most.
Messages that receive the most votes will be introduced at the end of the workshop.
